Meet Your Welding Instructor

Brent Williams is a welding educator and industry leader with more than 30 years of experience spanning fabrication, product innovation, technical education, and inspection. His career reflects a rare blend of shop-floor credibility, instructional leadership, and product development expertise that bridges welding technology and real-world application.
His journey began while earning his AAS in Welding Technology at Ferris State University, welding process piping and stainless fabrications for the food and beverage industry. He quickly expanded into small business ownership—launching a welding and repair shop that specialized in aluminum and stainless TIG work.

Brent joined Miller Electric Mfg. in 1998, starting with an internship that evolved into a long-term role across engineering, applications, marketing, and leadership. He contributed to major product innovations including the Syncrowave’s conversion to microprocessor control and the original launch of the Dynasty and Maxstar platforms. He later served as an industrial product specialist in the Southeastern U.S., building custom welding solutions for large manufacturers across MIG, Flux-Core, STICK, and Subarc applications.

Returning to Miller headquarters, Brent led cross-functional product teams and introduced new TIG-focused equipment including the Dynasty 280, Diversion 165, and the industry’s first wireless remote control. He also played a key role in integrating Weldcraft torches with power sources and building application support programs across markets such as aerospace, shipbuilding, mechanical contracting, and hobby welding.

In 2013, Brent brought his industry perspective into higher education as a tenured professor in the Welding Engineering Technology program at Ferris State University. There, he earned his MS in Career and Technical Education and overhauled the curriculum to better reflect advanced processes and materials used in today’s welding industry. This included integrating modified short-circuit transfer modes, cutting-edge pulsing waveforms, and expanded instruction in stainless and aluminum processes.

Known for his learner-centered teaching style, Brent combines in-person guidance with video-based instruction and lab-driven experimentation. He’s received recognition including RSO Advisor of the Year, a National Science Foundation grant, and a Non-Traditional Student Advocate award. His objective is always the same: helping people learn welding in a way that makes sense, builds confidence, and prepares them for the demands of industry.

As a Certified Welding Inspector, Brent supports training and compliance with AWS codes including D1.1, D1.3, D1.6, D17, D18, and MIL-STD weldments for ground combat vehicles. He continues to consult with private companies and public organizations to build technical programs, assess weld quality, and manage process improvements.

Brent is the founder of WELDFUZION, a platform dedicated to blending hands-on experience with accessible welding education. After years of balancing industry and teaching, Brent relaunched the initiative in 2024 to create practical, innovative training pathways that serve both welders and the companies who depend on them.
